Saturday and Sunday December 14 & 15 – NEW Workshops for 2019!

Saturday, December 14

News Literacy Project: Teaching Misinformation Workshop

8:00am – 12:00pm – $169

Join News Literacy Project, a national education nonprofit offering nonpartisan, independent programs that teach students how to know what to believe in the digital age in a session covering different types of misinformation, basic digital forensics skills, effective debunking strategies, and some important topics involving intent behind the creation and sharing of misinformation.

Learn how to teach students how to stop using the term “fake news” and more effectively identify the many other forms of misleading, inaccurate and outright false information that they encounter in their daily lives. We’ll tackle the misinformation landscape: why it’s important to teach students about it, and how to use examples of misinformation to engage students in news literacy and civic learning. We’ll also discuss the authentic civic pathways and actions made available to students through studying misinformation; introduce the concept of “digital forensics” (skills and tools that can help students debunk manipulated and false images); and examine the ways that producers of misinformation are likely to exploit technological advances in the near future.

OnEducation Podcasting Workshop

12:30pm – 4:30pm – $169

Want to podcast? Don’t know where to start? Start here! Join Mike Washburn and Glen Irvin, the hosts of OnEducation, as they guide you through the entire process of creating your own podcast. From concept to creation and every step in between. You’ll leave this workshop with either your very own published podcast, or the opportunity to share your podcast as a special episode of OnEducation. Either way, this is going to be awesome.
